Google Messages puts an end to the “no signal” problem

One of the most prominent new features of Android 15 is the support for sending messages via satellite without using special hardware. This will be made possible through the use of satellites with Direct to Cell technology developed by SpaceX, which, as the name suggests, can connect directly with smartphones.

Given the wide availability of the service, it is not yet known whether a dedicated messaging app will be offered or whether it will be possible to take advantage of the system with applications already used in daily life. Android Authority emphasizes that the Google Messages app will be the center of this message exchange via satellite.

The satellite connection feature will be activated as soon as the phone is disconnected from Wi-Fi or 4G/5G. The feature will only be supported for direct messages and cannot be used in groups, as the pop-up will not appear in simultaneous conversations with multiple contacts. It is not yet clear whether the connection will be terminated when access to traditional networks is restarted.
